Industry Partners Support the Covenant to Care Community Service Project

Laura Bordeaux, ASID (chair of the Covenant to Care community service project) reports that among the many companies and individuals donating product or services are Industry Partners Wolf-Gordon and Maggie Cole.

The much needed refurbishing of the non-profit’s offices is coming together and Laura would like to recognize the donors who are making it happen.  ASID members Alex Lanuk, Christy Somerville, John Arabolos, and John Kandalaft have offered time or materials along with mustering the Paier college of Art, University of New Haven and University of Bridgeport ASID student members to create artwork collages.  Dollar donations are still needed to offset the production costs of creating this themed series of montages.

Manufacturers donating product are: Bentley/Prince Street (carpet), Maharam (textiles), Fixtures Furniture and the Gunlocke Company (furniture) along with Industry Partner Wolf-Gordon for wallcovering.  Dealerships who have donated product include: bkm Total Office, Office Resource, Stamford Office Furniture, and Business Invirons.

In addition to material, several businesses or individuals are donating time and labor to complete the renovation.  They are: Commercial Flooring Concepts (carpet and base installation), Home Depot (labor and painting), W. B. Crosscup (wallcover installation), PAC Group (contractor), and Michael Laverriere (millwork).

Industry Partner Maggie Cole will photograph the completed project for all to take pride in.

Covenant to Care, Inc. is "dedicated to improving the lives of Connecticut's abused and neglected children through the acquisition and distribution of community resources, mentoring, and foster and adoptive family recruitment."  Their offices were cluttered, inefficient and non-ergonomic with old furniture and extremely outdated lighting and finishes.  With some minor demolition and new partitions, the design team was able to identify an entrance that characterizes the CTC organization, as well as achieving a more open work environment for employees.  Design layouts and furniture donations solicited create ergonomic work areas and organize storage for donated merchandise and supplies.

The Chapter would like to extend its appreciation to everyone who helped Laura bring the dream of new Covenant to Care facilities to fruition.  We work hard each day to provide our clients with the interiors they choose, but to give organizations like Covenant to Care the means to better serve their clients - is joy - not work.  And thank you goes to Laura whose determination keeps the project moving toward its December 2004 completion.  Project designer Diane Pritt, ASID along with the design team at Jung Brannen also deserve credit.  Laura is still hoping to receive charitable contribution to defray costs not covered by donations.

As an off-shoot to the design aspect of this community service project, ASID joined forces with IIDA for a Holiday Gala, where proceeds of roughly $1,400.00 went to the project.  Over 600 gifts for the children Covenant to Care serves were collected as part of the Gala.

If you have a community service opportunity to bring to the chapter, contact Terry Scarborough, ASID to schedule a presentation to the board of directors.
