Interior Designers to Teach

The University of New Haven is introducing two new senior level interior design studio courses and is seeking interested interior designers to teach these courses. The first course is scheduled to run for the Fall 2008 semester beginning Wednesday, August 28 through Wednesday, May 14. The class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00pm to 9:20pm. This course focuses on institutional interior design. The course may focus on one specific area of institutional design or several areas such as healthcare, education, government, etc.

The following is the course description: ID 411 Interior Design V
Prerequisite: ID 312, ID 314 or consent of the instructor. Advanced senior level course in institutional interior design incorporating professional Scope of Services including; Programming, Conceptual Design, Design Development, Contract Documents, Contract Administration and Evaluation. Special attention is focused on individual user needs with respect to health safety and welfare issues within the interior environment. 3 credit hours.

The second course is scheduled to run for the Spring 2009 semester beginning Monday January 26 through Wednesday May 13. The specific days and times have not been scheduled pending the needs of the instructor. This course focuses on one or more areas of commercial interiors and integrates historic preservation and sustainability design.

The following is the course description: ID 412 Interior Design VI
Prerequisite: ID 411or consent of the instructor. Advanced senior level course in historic preservation, sustainable design and green design incorporating professional Scope of Services including; Programming, Conceptual Design, Design Development, Contract Documents, Contract Administration and Evaluation. Special attention is focused on environmental issues and innovative design solutions. 3 credit hours.

Interior Designer

Kuhn Riddle Architects is a design-centered firm of about 18 people located in Amherst, Massachusetts, the heart of the ‘Five College Region’ comprising Amherst College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Hampshire College and the University of Massachusetts. The region is within 3 hours of Manhattan and 2 hours of Boston. It is a beautiful farming valley with excellent schools, a cosmopolitan population and an enhanced sensibility to progressive design and sustainability.

The firm provides architectural and interior design services to clients in education, commercial development, multi-family and single-family housing.

Sustainability is a goal in all of our work.

We are a pioneer in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and have been using the Revit platform for all of our work since 2002.

Responsibilities:

  • This position is one of two in our interior design department

  • Working with a principal or the director of the interior design department, takes design authority on interiors projects or participates as a team member on architectural projects

  • Manages client relationships when required

  • Participates in all phases of projects from concept to construction documents to construction to post-occupancy

  • Produces presentation graphics

Minimum requirements:

  • A gift for interior design and presentation graphics

  • Graduate from a recognized interior design program

  • 3 years’ office experience

  • Familiarity with CAD software and graphics software such as Photoshop, PowerPoint and desktop publishing.

  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite

Additional desirable background:

  • NCIDQ certification

  • Experience with BIMs – Revit in particular.

  • LEED Accredited Professional
