Brochure Offers Tips on How to Find, Hire and Work with an Interior Designer
(Washington, D.C., June 22, 2005) -The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) announced a new, free guide for the public, Designing Your Space. This unique guide provides useful tips to help consumers find, hire and work with an interior designer.
The brochure covers a variety of topics, such as
- Services interior designers provide to clients
- Steps in the design process
- Questions to ask when interviewing designers for a job
- How designers determine their fees
- Professional credentials of interior designers
- Means to address problems, should they arise
"ASID research shows that a rising number of consumers are considering hiring an interior designer, but are not sure how to find a qualified interior designer or what to expect during the design process," said ASID President Anita Baltimore, FASID. "A great deal of misinformation also is being communicated to the public by the television design "reality" shows about how interior designers work and the services they offer. Armed with the information in this guide, consumers will feel confident that they are selecting the right designers for their jobs and that their new home environments will not only be beautiful, but meet their unique needs and exceed all expectations."
A recent ASID survey of U.S. homeowners found that about nine out of 10 of those who worked with an interior designer were very pleased with the services received and said they would use an interior designer again. Approximately eight out of 10 said they felt the designer's fee was fair given the work the designer did and the result. However, among those who had considered using an interior designer but decided not to, about one-third were concerned about the cost and another one-third were uncertain how to find a designer to work with or the benefits the designer might provide. ASID created the new guide to help consumers make better informed decisions when hiring a designer.
